Day 9: How do I love thee, let me count the ways

Loves eh? This should be interesting. There are lots of things that I love. A few are stupid, some are profound, and most will not make it on this list. Let's see if I can pull together NINE of these suckers. Am I in a good enough mood for that?

What I love...

1. My parents
I know that losing them was one of my fears, so maybe this is a little repetitive, but they really are the best. I don't know where I'd be without either of them. They're a balance of crazy and perfect. I am who I am because of them, most definitely. Obviously I could not imagine if they had never had kids, but even if I wasn't their kid, I know there would be something missing in the world. Somehow when they had me, they got a manual and have been doing the best any kid could ask for.
My mom and I were a lot fatter then...this is the only picture I could find at work (thanks facebook). Oh my mom doesn't have blond hair anymore either.

2. Good friends
Friends are what get me through each and every day. I have a number of gems in my life (Mo, Feather, the Mexican, B...etc) and I'm just lucky. I sometimes wish I had a bigger group of friends, and maybe I will one day, but for now I'm just content to have a few great friendships.

3. Traveling
Who doesn't love to get away? I love new cultures, new people, new everything. I just like the experience of starting over and being somewhere different. There's nothing more thrilling than showing up somewhere you've never been before and have been anticipating going for a long time. Also, there's really nothing better than traveling with a big group of wonderful friends that make every moment entertaining.

4. Food (cucumbers are a big component of said food)
I'm a fat girl at heart and in practice. You've probably all seen my food updates. I have an unhealthy obsession with food, but I just can't seem to get enough. My taste buds are really greedy, what can I say?

5. Technology (Internet, Cell phone, TV...etc)
Obviously I love the internet for being an amazing resource for everything. I couldn't live without my cell phone (for a very long time at least). I need to be connected. TV is probably my favorite solitary pastime - I watch a lot of it and love getting lost in the stories.

6. Laughter
This is of course unless it's a heinous laugh. There are some really bad laughs out there. Otherwise, laughter is lifeblood. It's great for your heart and your life and just makes everything better. Love it. Need it. CRAVE it.

7. Roller coasters
I guess I could've just said thrills. I love things that get my heart beating and make me experience things I don't normally feel - like free fall. I love the feeling of free fall. I love excitement. I love fun!

8. Good smells
Bad odors are the worst, good smells bring back great memories. I love the smell of cleanliness, freshness. Not only is it hygenic, but it's a turn on to the umpteenth degree. I love great smelling colognes and certain types of foods. I have a really keen sense of smell, so it's important to me to expose myself to titillating and tantalizing odors.

9. Primary Colors
I guess I just like colors in general. Deep saturated colors. I'm not really a big fan of pastels, but primary colors are beautiful and I just love to see them. Without primary colors, you couldn't have any of the rest! The world is much better when it's not in black and white (or so I think)

Since the earthquake..

The pressure in my head has been out of control.

I don't get habitual headaches anymore, or at least I thought I didn't. They are back. My head hurts.

In other news, probably not going to Jamaica for the New Year. Will probably go later in January for my birthday. Vegas in November is still a go. Atlanta will either happen in March or at another point in the springtime.

Basically, I don't know what's going on.

I've accomplished nothing today, but making doctor appointments (one for a new GP and one for the Gyn, because we know about now that's a necessary thing). My surgeon is going to give me a quote for my surgery that I want to have in October but may postpone until February. It's going to be absurd and my head is going to explode. I am not looking forward to this.

Oh and yet again, my parents were super duper considerate and told me at 9pm last night that they would be going out of town for the next four days. Way to let me know that I'll have the house to myself.

Needless to say, there will be a lot of naked running around tonight. That's just what needs to happen.

And I think my mom took the last bag of frozen shrimp even though I told her that wasn't cool. AND she made my spaghetti into a fucking frittata. WHO THE FUCK EATS FRITTATAS?! If it's in the fridge when I get home tonight, it's going DIRECTLY into the garbage. Do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars.

Rude. I swear! (Sorry there are no visual aids for this post, the Mexican is rushing me to the Stumble and I'm trying to decide if I want to stay and do this grant garbage for work)

Text messaging - bridging the generation gap since...2010?

Do you text your parents or people of an older generation?

Living with my parents has worked out mostly swimmingly. My mom and I hardly fight anymore (although when we are both in the kitchen trying to "cook" things can get a little tense). I actually think a lot of our ability to communicate better now has to do with the fact that we never HAVE TO speak to each other, all we do is text now. Living with them is like living with roommates who you have established the perfect routine with. I have my own space, privacy, no real restrictions and the rent is cheap. I really have no complaints, but I think that the fact that we only text and hardly talk anymore make it so that my parents NEVER seem to know where I am (even when I'm in the house) and thus resort to texting to locate me (or my car).

For example on Sunday night:

Dad: You back?

Me: Yes, and I have been for over an hour...I said hello.

There have been instances where I have been home a whole weekend and they were convinced I wasn't in the house. As a matter of fact, since my dad and I share my car now, he's often more concerned about the vehicle than me.

Last night at 11:42pm he messaged me (I was in Queens at the time canoodling)

Dad: Hello dear. Will you and the car be coming home tonight? Just planning my day with Jill tomorrow.

(Jill is my aunt in from Florida in town for two days, by the way)

Me: Yes. I'll be home late, but so will the car.

Dad: Ok. Love you

I guess he's gotten used to me disappearing for days at a time and not seeing the car, but at least he still loves me! I'm thankful I don't have those overprotective parents, but geez, do you really only want to know where I am because you need the car tomorrow?

Tomorrow, as I've mentioned, I'm going to Bermuda and my dad was supposed to get me a digital camera for my birthday (in January). Mind you, we're not really the celebrating type. This year I didn't even get my mom a card for mother's day or her birthday (I did go pick up the Carvel cake on request - because it's tradition to eat ice cream and cookie crunchies on birthdays). We haven't been gift/celebration people since I turned about 13 because at that point we were just buying whatever we wanted for ourselves. In fact, for my birthday this year my parents said that if I wanted anything I would have to specifically tell them what I wanted, pick it out and potentially even buy it and they would reimburse me! Seriously? REIMBURSE ME FOR BUYING MY OWN BIRTHDAY PRESENT? Come on people. Last year I got my mom an awesome, thoughtful, and expensive gift, and they couldn't even follow through with making the physical purchase of an item of my choosing. I've been a little bitter...if you can't tell. But I digress...

Anyway, I've been using my parents' digital camera, but it's old and shitty and I would really like a new one but I really have NO time today and about a million things to do once I get out of this office, so this was the conversation I had with my dad via text.

 This morning:

Me: If you feel like getting me a digital camera today while you're out with Jill that would be pretty amazing {smiley face}

Dad: Yes, that WOULD be amazing.

Me: And you ARE amazing...

I guess I'll find out later if he actually IS amazing.

When my parents text it kind of cracks me up. I mean it's the easiest form of communication for us because none of us are phone people. My mom can't seem to figure out how to use the swipe function on her smart phone though, so she often types like a slightly retarded (sorry for not being PC) pre-teen (or maybe younger than that because kids have become proficient at smart phone usage by about age 6 now), it's getting better though. When she has something really stupid to ask about, she always calls though. Without fail, if the question is irrelevant to anything that's going on, has no purpose, can be answered at a later juncture...etc, she will call and call until I answer so I can answer he stupid question while making the "WTF?!" face.

All in all, my parents are pretty awesome/funny, and I desperately need a new camera before tomorrow (along with a pedicure, needing to pedicure and taking the Bodyguard out for her birthday)...it's going to be a long Friday.
